America According to Twitter

We've analyzed millions of Twitter user profiles and found that only about two-thirds actually contain a proper place name (such as San Francisco, CA) in the location field.  Luckily, there are lots of other markers in a user's Tweet stream that help us determine where they are located.

We thought we'd have some fun by mapping the quirky place names that many Twitter users include in their profile to the actual place that they are located.

So, whether you are in Transplant City, Gotham or somewhere in-between, we hope you'll enjoy our playful look at America According to Twitter!

Funny that Memphis would be called Bluff City since Tennessee already has a town by that name. It's at the other end of the state.

Thanks for the comment, Charles. Many of these nicknames were new to us for sure. FWIW- Wikipedia mentions that "The Bluff City" is one of Memphis' common nicknames along with "River City" and "M-Town".
